Perin Hurewitz (she/they)
Heritage of Pride / NYC Pride InterPride Alumni Chair
New York, New York
Perin Hurewitz has been involved with USAP since its formation in 2018, and served as interim Vice President during its first year of existence. She is a member of its Conference committee, and has been actively involved in the development of this year’s virtual AGM. Perin has also been active within InterPride (having attended 29 conferences since 1991), and has served as an InterPride Co-President, as a Vice President, and as the chair or co-chair of Alumni (20 plus years) and Scholarship (the first three years of its existence, in the late 1990s), as well as being a member of many other IP committees. She has also led the Theme workshop (tasked with developing a shortlist of potential InterPride international themes) for more than a dozen years.
She has been an active member of Heritage of Pride / NYC Pride since Stonewall 20 in 1989, and was a member of its Stonewall 50 / World Pride 2019 planning committee from 2009 onward, focusing on arts and culture. If you attended WP2019 in NY as a representative of your pride organization, there is a good chance you met her and her wife Harriet when checking in to get your credentials.
Perin is passionate about live performances of ballet, dance, theatre, and opera, and has been volunteering with NYC arts organizations since 1973. She met her wife-to-be in 1979, as volunteers at New York City Ballet (where they both still work). In an average year they work at or attend upwards of 250 performances as volunteers, ushers, or ticket holders - so 2020 and 2021 have been a challenge in this regard (to put it mildly).
