This workshop, from a queer transgender performer, explores the mechanisms of communicating information for advocacy by presenting arguments with elements of humour, observation, and comparisons that are as informative as they are entertaining. Using past examples of performance materials that tackle sexual assault, homophobia, transgender experiences, and cultural observations, participants will understand how comedy can be used as an effective tool to overcome prejudices and barriers present in many presentation formats. In this interactive workshop, attendees will participate in cooperative writing exercises and improvisation games to reinforce the content delivered in the workshop. By the end, each participant will have learned how to write a joke, how to deliver information in a humorous yet respectful manner, and how to incorporate entertainment techniques to improve their presentation and interpersonal skills.
