The UN Human Rights Mechanisms are one of the key ways to advance the human rights of queer communities, especially in conservative settings where queer identity and rights are not acknowledged. This workshop aims to introduce those mechanisms to the emerging youth LGBTIQ+ activists, educators, development practitioners and assist them in understanding and exploring their existing capacities to foster LGBTIQ+ rights within their own locality. The workshop will give an overview of UN Human Rights Systems, Various Treaty Bodies, and Their Functions, Special Procedures, Universal Periodic Review, and alignment of SDGs and LGBTIQ+ rights through these.

Participants of this workshop will be able to understand these topics through lecture sessions, small games, role play, and audio-visual display. The participants will also be able to access a soft copy of the Handbook on UN Human Rights Mechanisms Training.
