Anthony Venn-Brown OAM

Ambassadors & Bridge Builders International
Founder & CEO
Sydney, Australia
In a former life, Anthony Venn-Brown was a high-profile Pentecostal preacher, speaking regularly in Australia’s megachurches such as Hillsong. Anthony’s autobiography, ‘A Life of Unlearning’, details his 22-year struggle through gay conversion therapy, exorcisms and marriage trying NOT to be gay. A chance encounter with Jason shattered the wall of denial and thrust him through a devastating maze of public scandal, rejection, and isolation.

As the first Australian conversion therapy survivor to tell his story, this opened a floodgate of responses from readers with similar experiences. Since 2000, Anthony has worked extensively with individuals experiencing faith/sexuality conflict, churches, Christian leaders and organisations to create greater understanding and acceptance. His oft repeated catch-cry is ‘the real enemy is ignorance”.

Anthony is the founder and CEO of Ambassadors & Bridge Builders International and been recognised for his contribution several times including being twice voted one of the 25 Most Influential Gay and Lesbian Australians and in 2020 was awarded the Medal or the Order of Australia for his service to the LGBTIQ community.

Another claim to fame is that in 2008, along with Heath Ledger, Darren Hayes and Peter Allen, Anthony was named one of Australia’s Poster Children for Sin by the infamous Rev Fred Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church.
